Reading

Reading is the beating heart of our school. At Castle Hill, we believe that reading is the master key that will unlock all other areas of our exciting curriculum.

From EYFS, pupils are exposed to a range of rich stories and texts and are taught to read using Floppy's Phonics (a systematic, synthetic phonics programme). At Castle Hill, we use the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme and pupils are given books that match the sounds that they have been taught. Throughout KS1 and KS2, pupils continue to develop their fluency, comprehension and love of reading as well as building their knowledge of vocabulary, different authors and plots/themes.
